5 ways film-making is evolving thanks to new technology

Around two hundred years ago, since the birth of film and screen projection by a magic lantern, there were many ways how film-making was evolving, some still use in the industry but some were already gone. However, everything need to be evolved to catch up with the present and the future, and these are five ways film-making could be evolved thanks to new technology.

1. Film - It never went away since the flexibility and immediacy of digital filming makes a lot of sense in the industry even though it’s is expensive and demanding to do so. We cannot deny the unsurpassed image quality, rich colours, deep tones and textural details from digital filming which can be seen from movies all around the world.

2. 3D Printing - 3D printing is set to revolutionise film-making from a production design perspective. Concept artists often design with computer-generated imagery (CGI) and computer-aided design (CAD) software, which lends itself perfectly to printing in 3D. Because the technology can also achieve such sophisticated levels of detail, print size and finish, props departments on big productions are embracing the flexibility and efficiency the process afford

3. Virtual Reality - VR brings a very different viewing experience to the table. Appropriate applications for film are still being explored, but a number of players, such as Oculus Story Studio, are working hard to define the best and most compelling VR cinema formats. VR might offer a dynamic new storytelling or rich narrative device within conventional film. With the sheer amount of concept art and design that is now created in digital 3D files, VR offers production designers a new way of showing a director a full set environment complete with props, before it’s built.

4. Depth Sensors - 3D motion capture is an expensive process but there are people who work on this matter and try on a new format to revolutionise this technology. Using this technology along with 3D CGI visualise the world of wireframe forms which might be an option to use for telling the story.

5. Cloud and collaborative workflows - Since creating a movie need a team, efficient communication channels are very important and cloud technology helps this matter. There are various applications which appropriate for communication and creating a cloud workspace for the team. With this technology, the team can be formed across the world and finding the best person for each position. Creating the best quality movie is easier than before.
